Google's Nest Hub video displays offering more recommendations
Google's Nest Hub video displays are getting a new look today, adding more recommendation features to help people with their day. Most use cases for the display units revolve around people using them to play music via voice commands or operate their smart home. Google execs say they wanted to showcase different things people could do by showcasing them in discovery, and to offer more personalized recommendations on music to listen to, videos to watch and news to read. Beyond the Google Nest Hub and Hub Max, the Google Assistant lives on other displays made by others, including the Lenovo Smart Display. The display units had always had a "Your Day" feature which showed you scheduled appointments and the like in the morning.
Zoom finally conferences in Alexa, Google and Facebook on Echo Show, Portal and Nest Hub Max
After frustrating stay-at-home workers and parents looking for an easy way to connect their kids to Zoom because it wasn't available, the world's most popular video meeting application is finally coming to Amazon, Google and Facebook video display units. The Echo Show, Google Nest Hub Max and Facebook Portal were originally released as a way for folks to engage in video chatting and home entertainment without the bother of turning on the computer, phone or TV. That there would be a coronavirus that sent Zoom usage up 10x in less than a year wasn't foreseen, nor the need to have a dedicated video display that could handle one-touch setup for the meetings and classes, without the bother of phones and computers. Fun:How to make video meetings more like in-person experience? But now, Zoom is finally coming to the devices, first to Portal, in September, the latest version of the Amazon Echo Show (version 8) and Google's Nest Hub Max, but not until later this year.
You can finally stream Netflix on a Google Nest Hub or Hub Max smart display
The Google smart display in your kitchen or bedroom is perfect for watching YouTube TV, Hulu, or casting Disney, but up until now, it hasn't been able to play video from the most popular streaming service on the planet: Netflix. Google just announced that its Google Nest Hub and Hub Max will be the first smart displays to support Netflix. Google says that Netflix on the Nest Hub and Nest Hub Max will start rolling out today, and it will be supported anywhere that Netflix and the two Google smart displays are available. To watch Netflix on your Nest Hub or Hub Max, just go to the Google Home app and link your Netflix account. You can do so by tapping the " " button in the top-left corner of the Google Home interface and selecting Video under the Add services heading.

It's arguably the best speaker of all of Google's first-party displays and its larger screen makes it best for viewing photos and watching video.
Best Google Smart Speaker Deals (April 2020): Nest Mini, Hub Max, and More
Google has several different Google Assistant-powered smart speakers and smart displays in its smart home lineup, and right now they're all on sale. The discounts vary with the model you choose, but they're some of the best deals we've seen in a while. You can use them to play music, check the weather, set timers and alarms, and find answers to questions when you're feeling too lazy to look them up on your phone. Like many connected devices, they come with some privacy concerns, though Google addressed many of them last year. Still, it's worth checking out our guide on how to make your smart speaker as private as possible.
Amazon's Alexa vs. Google Assistant: Which one is smarter?
These days, just about every smart home gadget works with Google Assistant or Amazon's Alexa. And, for the most part, Google Assistant and Alexa can do many of the same things--like give you the weather forecast, play music, read the news, and so much more. But, when you compare Alexa and Google Assistant head to head, which intelligent personal assistant is smarter? We took a deep dive into the nitty-gritty of both Alexa and Google Assistant to find out which smart assistant knows--and can do--more. The Hub Max comes with Google Assistant, so you can check the weather, watch recipe videos, control your smart home, and more.
Smart home guide: What you need to know to get plugged in to the connected life
If the idea of asking Alexa or Google to turn on and off your lights appeals to you, and you're not doing it already, the holidays could be a great time to finally get to it. "Competition is growing and prices are dropping which makes now the best time to make your home," smart, says YouTuber Steve Siems, who has a channel called "Steve Does," devoted to smart home reviews and installation. He suggests starting small, with a connected speaker, then adding smart switches and bulbs before venturing further with doorbells and other products. "See what you like and what you need more of," he says. "No need to buy 10 smart plugs then realize you only need three for what you want to do. By the time you use the other seven plugs, something newer, better, and cheaper will be out."
Google Nest Hub Max review: bigger, better and smarter display
Google's latest smart display is larger and can recognise your face for proactively showing you personalised information making it just that little bit smarter than competitors. The £219 Nest Hub Max is Google's second own-brand smart display and is essentially a super-sized version of the excellent original Home Hub (now renamed Nest Hub). But where the Nest Hub is a veritable bargain at £119 or frequently much less, the Nest Hub Max is a different proposition at a little under twice the price. A bigger screen is definitely better for viewing from across a room. The 10in 720p HD screen is bright, crisp enough at normal viewing distances and has Google's ambient EQ colour tone system so that photos on it look very much like printed photos, not displayed on an overly white and clinical LCD screen.

Google patent reveals plans for AI baby monitor that can tell parents when their child is waking up
Google has filed a patent for an AI-powered baby monitor to tell parents exactly what their child is up to at any given time. The patent, published this month and uncovered by CNBC, details a device equipped with eye-tracking technology that would detect when a baby is awake or asleep. It would also be able to differentiate between normal and abnormal behaviors based on sound and movement, and let parents know if the baby appears to be uncomfortable. According to CNBC, the monitor described in the patent would come with'eye state analysis' that relies on changes in the irises, pupils, and whites of the eye to identify a baby's sleep state. It would also take the baby's body position into consideration, and be able to differentiate between standing, kneeling, climbing, or laying down.
